Introducing Raspberry Pi Zero – The $5 Computer

Raspberry Pi Founder Eben Upton has given a huge gift by introducing “the $5 computer – Raspberry Pi Zero”. Raspberry Pi has gone even cheaper and smaller at a super low cost and with the features like a mini HDMI port, a memory of a half gigabyte, a MicroSD card slot, and a super fast processor that is 40% more powerful than the $25 original. This one is better than the first Raspberry Pi and much affordable as well.

Check out the incredible features of this $5 Raspberry Pi Zero computer:

  • 512 MB of LPDDR2 SDRAM
  • 1 GHZ ARM11 core Broadcom BCM2835 application processor, which is 40% faster than the Raspberry Pi 1
  • A mini HDMI socket
  • A MicroSD card slot
  • Two Micro USB sockets for power and data
  • Unpopulated 40-pin GPIO header (having the same pinout as in Model A+/B+/2B)
  • Smallest size from Raspberry Pi as 65mm*30mm*5mm
  • Runs all of your favourite applications including Scratch, Sonic Pi, Minecraft, and Raspbian

Currently, Raspberry Pi have built some thousands of units of Raspberry Pi Zero and are expected to build more and more of them to outstrip the supply. If a computer is available cheaper than the cost of $5, then it should be free, so Raspberry Pi is giving the free Raspberry Pi Zero with the copy of the December edition of the MagPI. To make your Raspberry Pi Zero safe and protected, the company provides the kit in a small metal tin.

The goal of Raspberry Pi behind introducing this $5 computer is to get more and more people into programming at an insanely affordable price and expanding the capabilities from the original. Raspberry Pi Zero is available at Pimoroni and The Pi Hut in the UK and at Adafruit in the US. It is also available at the branches of Micro Center.
